Chesterfield FC / Chief Executive Officer / 2011 - 2017



  • Responsible for the daily management of the club’s entire football operation - from supporting the management team in player coordination and recruitment, to allocating and generating financial resources to facilitate long term progression, to maintaining regular communication with the board, sponsors and other relevant stakeholders


  • Coordinated both the Football and Commercial departments

  • Made and contributed to strategic decisions that balanced the club’s performances on the field with financially sustainable growth off it


  • Built positive relationships throughout every level of the club to build an inclusive, positive and winning football environment in which each individual felt involved in team results


  • Ensured there was a clear strategy in place to guide player and staff recruitment policy, personally scouting and tracking players across the UK alongside the Chief Scout


  • Continually liaised with other clubs to facilitate player transfers, league officials to coordinate the club’s schedule and obligations, and business partners, sponsors and stakeholders in the local community



Key Achievements

  1. Chief Executive as the club won the 2013/14 League Two title to seal promotion to League One, reached the League One play-offs in the very next season, and were Football League Trophy finalists twice, winning in 2012


  1. Departed the club with a strong financial performance in 2016 following a significant period of instability: o Football Department: Profit of more than £600k


o Commercial Department: Profit of more than £430k (a club record)

o Conference & Banqueting Facilities: Profit of more than £320k (a club record)

o Miscellaneous Income: More than £260k


  1. Worked closely with the Chief Scout to develop and implement an innovative new recruitment strategy that targeted players in the lower leagues and younger players from more prominent clubs, leading to several notable transfers that generated significant revenue for the club (over £5 million)


  1. Personally established a new scouting system at youth level covering Sheffield, Leeds and Chesterfield through the setup of new development schools, with 130 players progressing to the CFC Academy over a four year period


  1. Introduced a new ticketing system in partnership with Toptix that was one of the most advanced systems in European football, becoming one of the first UK clubs to enable supporters to buy tickets online and print them off at home


  1. Introduced a Fans Forum to build the supporter base and engagement with the local community


  1. Successfully organised large scale concerts for both Elton John and Tom Jones that generated critical revenue for the club

Hartlepool FC / Director of Football / 2006 - 2011



Key Achievements

  • Retained League One status from 2007 to 2010 despite having the lowest average attendances and a bottom three playing budget


  • Generated over £2 million pound in player transfers - most notably overseeing the sale of Tommy Miller to Ipswich for £800k (club record fee received) and Adam Boyd to Luton Town for £500k


  • Director of Football during a consistent period of overachievement in cup competitions, with Hartlepool beating higher tier clubs including Stoke City, West Bromwich Albion, Sheffield United and Coventry City
