Key Achievements

  • Reduced the playing budget at Stockport from £1.8 million to £800k within eight months while simultaneously generating funds through the development and sale of players including Liam Dickinson (£750k to Derby County) and Jermaine Easter (£150k to Wycombe Wanderers)


  • Reduced Sheffield Wednesday’s wage bill from £7.3 million to £2.5 million inside 14 months while still building a competitive team on the field, personally recruiting 10 of the 13 players that featured in the club’s 2004/05 League One play-off final victory


  • Signed, developed and sold players including Chris Brunt (£3 million to West Bromwich Albion) and Glen Whelan (£500k to Stoke City) as Sheffield Wednesday manager


  • Led Hartlepool to the 1999/00 League Two play-offs and went on a 21 game unbeaten run in 2000/01


  • Coached and developed Emile Heskey at Leicester as well as Robbie Keane, Matt Murray, Keith Andrews, Joleon Lescott and Lee Naylor at Wolverhampton
